Methyl Sulphonyl Methane ? Arthritis

Health Article: Daily Mail

MSM is a natural constituent of most foodstuffs, both animal and vegetable, which provides an organic source of sulphur and is a natural precursor of the essential amino acids methionine and cysteine. MSM is becoming increasingly popular as a supplement designed to reduce allergic reactions to pollen and foods, and as an alleviator of the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, sporting injuries and other, similar conditions.

MSM is chemically quite similar to another health supplement, DMSO (Dimethyl sulfoxide), and is often referred to as DMSO2. There is some degree of uncertainty surrounding the purported health benefits of MSM; a few studies have looked at the effectiveness of MSM for athletic injuries and arthritis yet more studies are undoubtedly needed to prove the benefits conclusively.

MSM is marketed both as a single-ingredient product and combined with various other ingredients. It is available for oral use in capsules and tablets, and for application to the skin in a lotion, cream or gel. According to Robert M Herschler, a research biochemist and patent-holder for MSM, an intake of 0.5 to 1mg per kilogram of body weight per day is 'desirable'.

Combining MSM with Glucosamine & Chondroitin may enhance the effects even further.

Glucosamine is a key element in the framework that supports collagen-based tissues within the body structure, believed to help maintain fluidity of movement and alleviate the problems of stiffness and pain that are normally associated with osteoarthritis and joint wear and tear due to old age or injury.

Chondroitin is a component of cartilage that helps it to attract and retain water. It also helps to support the elasticity of cartilage and joints, and to prevent joint stiffness. Chondroitin is also found in the walls of blood vessels, and may help in maintaining their health.

MSM, sometimes known as DMSO2, is a natural constituent of most foods, which provides an organic source of sulphur and is a natural precursor of the essential amino acids methionine and cysteine. It is increasingly becoming popular as a way of relieving the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, sporting injuries and other similar conditions.

The combination of these three ingredients is aimed towards anyone who may need to prevent or treat joint inflammation, stiffness, injury and improve mobility.
