Optrex Bacterial Conjunctivitis 1% Eye Ointment is a fast-acting ointment for the treatment of acute bacterial conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink or red eye.

Easy to use tube of ointment for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, offering quick relief from itchy, gritty eyes.

What is bacterial conjunctivitis?

Bacterial conjunctivitis is a common and highly contagious condition that causes redness and irritation of the eye, and is caused by a bacterial infection. It is commonly known as pink eye. Symptoms can include itchiness, watery eyes and a sticky discharge which sticks your eyelids together after a night's sleep. When treated, the condition should improve within a week.

What causes bacterial conjunctivitis?

  • It's highly contagious so it can be caused by being in contact with someone who has the condition already - sharing pillow cases for instance
  • If you wear contact lenses than it may be caused by poor lens hygiene
  • It can be caused by touching your eyes with unclean fingers
  • It can be caused by a low immune system, for instance when you have a cold

  • Suitable for adults and children aged 2 and over
  • Not suitable for use with contact lenses

Directions for the use of Optrex Bacterial Conjunctivitis Eye Ointment

  • Always read the package leaflet before use.
  • Make sure your hands are clean and try not to touch the open end of the tube.
  • Apply a small strip of ointment on the inside of the lower eye lid in the affected eye 3-4 times a day for 5 days, blink a few times to make sure it spreads evenly.

Cautions for the use of Optrex Bacterial Conjunctivitis Eye Ointment

  • Do not use this product if you're allergic to chloramphenicol or anything else in the ointment.
  • If your condition does not improve within 48 hours, talk to your doctor.
  • If your eyes get worse, stop using this product and see your doctor immediately.
  • After 5 days, throw away any ointment left.
  • Do not store above 25 degrees Celsius
  • Keep out of reach of children

Chloramphenicol 1% w/w, Liquid Paraffin, White Petroleum. Contents are sterile until opened.
