Key Benefits
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Movicol if you: Are pregnant or breastfeeding, are taking any other medicines, need treatment for constipation longer than 5 days, or have persistent abdominal pain or are passing blood.
Do not take Movicol if: You have a blockage in your gut (intestinal obstruction), a perforated gut wall, severe inflammatory bowel disease (such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, or toxic megacolon), or if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
Dosage warning: Do not exceed the recommended dose stated on the label. If you have a heart condition, do not take more than 2 sachets in any one hour.
Possible side effects: Like all medicines, Movicol can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Stop taking Movicol and seek immediate medical attention if you experience a serious allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
Other side effects may include: Skin rash, itching, redness, nettle rash, swollen hands, feet or ankles, headaches, and changes in potassium levels. You may also experience indigestion, stomach ache, bloating, wind, nausea, vomiting, soreness of the anus, or mild diarrhoea—especially when starting treatment. These symptoms usually improve if the dose is reduced.
