Lecithin was originally isolated from egg yolk in 1846 by French scientist Theodore Gobley, who named it after the Greek word 'lekithos' meaning yolk. Today, most commercial lecithin is extracted from soybeans, making it suitable for people with egg allergies or following a vegan diet.
As a fatty substance found naturally in living cells, lecithin is often utilized as an additive in processed foods, where it acts as an emulsifier, lubricant, antioxidant, and preservative. Lecithin is also valued as a dietary supplement due to its phospholipid content, including phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and phosphatidylinositol - key structural components of cell membranes.
Natures Aid High Strength Lecithin Capsules provide 1200mg of non-GMO, gluten-free lecithin from soybeans per capsule. The lecithin is unbleached and the product contains no lactose.
