Ipakitine contains ingredients that act as phosphate binding agents, lowering the absorption of phosphates from the intestines. This Ipakitine formula is composed of Chitosan and Calcium Carbonate. In respect of a phosphate restriction, they can mimic or enhance the effects of phosphate restricted food. Not only that, but it also reduces the absorption of some uraemic toxins that can affect normal kidney function.
Numerous studies have been carried out that show the benefits of a reduction of phosphates in cats and dogs that may be suffering from kidney failure. A direct link has even been accepted between the length and quality of life of a cat or dog with CRF and the amount of phosphates they get through their food. According to some research, cats that have low phosphates in their food live almost 2.5 times longer than cats that are fed with normal diets.
