What is Omega 3 and why would children benefit from it in their diet?

Omega 3 is the name of a type of fat that is found in oil-rich fish and some plant oils. It’s from the family of ‘good’ fats – polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that are not only beneficial for health but are essential in the diet. Research has shown that eating 250mg DHA daily as part of a healthy lifestyle contributes to normal brain function.

What is the importance of Vitamin D in children?

The UK Dept. of Health recommends all children from 6 months to 5 years take supplements in the form of Vitamins A, C and D every day. (Source: NHS UK) Vitamin D is essential for the body to absorb calcium. Calcium and Vitamin D are needed for normal growth and development of bones in children. Vitamin D supports normal function of the immune system. It can be difficult to get Vitamin D through food alone. Growing children, especially those who are fussy eaters and don’t have a varied diet, sometimes don’t get enough Vitamin D. Vitamin D supplements can be a very useful way for many children to get enough Vitamin D.
