Clotrimazole 1% cream is used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete's foot, fungal nappy rash and fungal sweat rash. It is also used to relieve irritation on the genital area as a result of thrush.

Clotrimazole 1% is a topical (for the skin) cream that is intended to be used on fungal infections on the skin. This cream should be used to treat conditions such as thrush, athlete's foot, ringworm, or any other fungal infection that is external on the body. Clotrimazole 1% cream is suitable for anyone who is suffering from a fungal or yeast infection and wants an effective form of treatment.

You can help the treatment to work by following these simple self - help tips:

  • Although the infected area will itch, try not to scratch. Scratching will damage the surface of the skin and cause the infection to spread further.
  • Keep the affected skin clean.
  • Pay particular attention to drying the skin, but avoid excessive rubbing.
  • Do not share towels, bathmats, etc with other people as you could spread the infection to them.

How do you use clotrimazole 1% cream?

It's important that to get the best results you use your clotrimazole 1% cream correctly. The cream should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected area 2 - 3 times daily and rubbed in gently to the affected area.

A strip of cream ( cm long) is enough to treat an area of about the size of the hand. Use the cream for candida (thrush) infections for one month for other infections. If the feet are infected, they should be thoroughly washed and dried, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.

    How does clotrimazole work?

Clotrimazole works by killing the fungus (yeast) that is causing the infection. Once the fungus has be destroyed from the affected area the skin should start to feel healthy and improved. If you are unsure whether you or your baby (if treating nappy rash) have one of these fungal skin infections, seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.
