Do not use Reliviate Gel:

• if you have or have ever had an allergic reaction to piroxicam or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• if you have or have ever had asthma that is made worse by aspirin or other painkilling medicines
• if you have or have ever had an allergic reaction, especially an itchy red rash, hay-fever like symptoms or asthma, after taking aspirin, ibuprofen or any other anti-inflammatory painkillers
• if you have or have ever had a severe skin reaction after applying or taking any other medicines.

Do not use if you are:

• under 18 years of age
• pregnant or breast-feeding.

Special warnings

• Do not get this medicine in your eyes, nose or mouth. If the gel does accidentally go in your eyes or mouth wash it out immediately, then contact your doctor. If you accidentally swallow some of the gel, contact your doctor immediately
• Avoid contact with inflamed or broken skin. Do not put a plaster, bandage or another gel or cream medicine on the area you have applied the gel to because it may affect the way the gel works
• The gel can sometimes make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. To prevent this happening you should try to keep the treated area out of the sun.

This medicine may not be suitable for you. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have:

• asthma
• active peptic ulcer
• liver problems
• kidney problems

Other medicines and Reliviate Gel You must tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are already taking any of the following medicines:

• aspirin
• other painkillers
• medicines to thin the blood (eg warfarin)
• medicines to lower blood pressure (eg lisinopril, iloprost or losartan).

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant or are breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines

This medicine should not have an effect on your ability to drive or use machinery.

Reliviate Gel contains propylene glycol

This medicine contains 150 mg propylene glycol in each one and a quarter inch (3cm) application which is equivalent to 150 mg / 1 g of gel.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the end of the tube. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Serious allergic reactions are very rare. If you experience any of the following side effects stop using the gel and speak to your doctor immediately:

• breathlessness, wheeziness, difficulty breathing
• rash, bruising or blistering of the skin
• swelling of the eyelids, face or lips
• itching (especially affecting your whole body)
• serious skin reactions such as severe rash involving reddening, peeling and swelling of the skin that resembles severe burns (toxic epidermal necrolysis), severe form of skin rash with flushing, blisters or ulcers which may be accompanied with flu-like symptoms (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

Other side effects may include:

• skin becoming red, sore, itchy, painful, numb or tingly (contact dermatitis)
• itchy rash (scale-like) caused by sunlight
• feeling sick, upset stomach or abdominal pain

These side effects should disappear when you stop using the gel.

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your doctor, or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

This gel is designed for topical (on the skin) application only. Never take the gel by mouth.

The recommended dosage is:

Adults:

• Squeeze about one and a quarter inches (3cm) of the gel onto your finger or hand and gently massage it onto the skin around the injury. If you have more than one injury, repeat on each area.
• Apply the gel three times a day (24 hours) as required
• Apply each dose at least 4 hours apart
• Do not cover the area where the gel has been rubbed in with dressings or bandages
• If symptoms do not improve after 7 days or if they worsen, talk to your pharmacist or doctor
• Do not use for more than 14 days unless your doctor tells you to
• Do not use in children or young people less than 18 years of age

There is a seal on the nozzle of this tube. Break this seal by pushing the pointed end of the cap onto the nozzle. If the seal is already broken when you receive the gel, return it to your pharmacist.

Wash your hands before using the gel. Also, wash your hands when you have finished using the gel unless your hands are the area being treated.

Do not get this medicine in your eyes, nose or mouth.

If you use more Reliviate Gel than recommended above, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If the gel does accidentally go in your eyes or mouth wash it out immediately, then contact your doctor. If you accidentally swallow some of the gel, contact your doctor immediately

If you forget to use Reliviate Gel

Apply as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next application miss the forgotten application and apply as normal. Do not double the amount to make up for a forgotten application.

How to store Reliviate Gel

Do not store above 25°C.

Do not throw away medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Reliviate Gel contains piroxicam 0.5% w/w in a gel. It also contains 150mg of propylene glycol in each one and a quarter inch (3 cm) application which is equivalent to 150 mg / 1 g of gel. It also contains propylene glycol, isopropyl alcohol, macrogol 7 glyceryl cocoate, hypromellose, sodium hydroxide, sodium metabisulphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and purified water.
