Lacoste is a French apparel company founded in 1933 that sells high-end clothing, footwear, perfume, leather goods, watches, eyewear, and most famously, tennis shirts. The company can be recognized by its green crocodile logo.
In 1933 Rene Lacoste and André Gillier, the owner and President of the largest French knitwear manufacturing firm of that time, set up a company to manufacture the logo-embroidered shirt. The champion had designed this for his own use on the tennis court, as well as a number of other shirts for tennis, golf, and sailing – as can be seen in the first catalogue, produced in 1933.
This was the first time that a brand name appeared on the outside of an article of clothing – an idea which has since become extremely successful.
Lacoste fragrance was launched in 2002 by Procter and Gamble using their famous crocodile logo.
Their debut fragrance was Lacoste Pour Homme which is designed for a man with a sporting attitude to life who breaks conventions with panache and a twinkle in his eyes.
One of Lacoste’s most popular perfumes, Touch of Pink, was launched in 2004. A Touch of Pink is a fresh inspired expression of playful feminine vitality.
