Giorgio Armani (born 11 July 1934) is an Italian fashion designer, particularly noted for his menswear. He formed his company, Armani, in 1974, and by 2001 was acclaimed as the most successful designer to come out of Italy.

In 1961 he joined Nino Cerruti as a designer until 1970. Armani began a free-lance design business in 1970 with the encouragement of his close friend Sergio Galeotti, and established his own men's wear label in 1974. He gradually adapted his designs for women and added a women's wear line in 1975, in partnership with Galeotti (who passed away in 1985). His sister Rosanna Armani teamed up with Armani as head of communication activities of the company.

Giorgio Armani's philosophy of fashion and style, together with his entrepreneurial ability has been central to the success of Giorgio Armani S.p.A. He oversees both the company's strategic direction and all aspects of design and creativity.

During his career, Giorgio Armani has received several local and international awards, including the Gran Cavaliere Della Repubblica, Commendatore dell'Ordine al Merito Della Repubblica (Italy's highest government award), Award for Best International Designer and Lifetime Achievement Award for men's wear from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He has, in addition, been recognized with an Honorary Doctorate from London's Royal College of Art and the inaugural Rodeo Drive 'Walk of Style' Award for his pioneering role in bringing the world's of fashion and cinema together, presented to him in September 2003. Giorgio Armani has also served as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
