Xenical capsules are used to treat obesity. They work in your digestive system and block about a third of the food in the fat you eat from being digested. Xenical attaches to the enzymes in your digestive system, known as lipases which are blocked from breaking down some of the fat you have eaten during your meal. Because the fat cannot be digested it is eliminated from the body. In order to qualify for this item you will need to complete a medical questionnaire which will be approved by our qualified doctor.

Managing your weight is very important to maintaining a healthy overall lifestyle. If you become overweight and carry additional excess fat around your stomach area then it can lead to serious health conditions such as some cancers, type 2 diabetes, strokes and heart disease. Your GP can assess whether your current weight is healthy by measuring your Body Mass Index.

If you are overweight then the first action you should take is to make changes to your diet and increase your levels of physical activity. Your GP or a practice nurse can help you to assess your current diet and levels of physical activity, helping to set your personal weight loss goals.

This treatment can be obtained through our Online Doctor service. Simply add to basket and head to the checkout to begin your consultation.

Please note, like all medicine, Xenical tablets can cause side effects although this does not apply to everyone who has taken them. Side effects are usually temporary with continued treatment or disappear when you stop tacking the medicine.

Before taking your medicine please read the patient information leaflet in detail to acquaint yourself with the potential side effects.

If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your GP in the first instance. Alternatively, contact our Online Clinic team for further assistance.

Please read all packaging before taking Xenical tablets.

Side Effects

Because Xenical works by blocking the absorption of dietary fat, it is likely that you will experience some changes in bowel habits. These bowel changes are a natural effect of blocking the fat from being absorbed. They generally occur during the first weeks of treatment; however, for some people they may continue for 6 months or longer while on Xenical. These changes may include gas with oily discharge, an increased number of bowel movements, an urgent need to have them, and an inability to control them, particularly after meals containing higher amounts of fat than are recommended.

Following a healthy eating plan will help you lose weight while decreasing some of the possible gastrointestinal effects you may experience while taking Xenical.

If you are concerned about these or any other side effects you experience while taking Xenical, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

The active substance is orlistat. Each capsule contains 120 mg of orlistat.

The other ingredients are:

Microcrystalline cellulose (E460), sodium starch glycolate (type A), povidone (E1201), sodium laurilsulfate and talc. The capsule shell consists of gelatine, indigo carmine (E132), titanium dioxide (E171) and edible printing ink.
