Valaciclovir is a treatment for genital herpes which belongs to a group of medicines known as antivirals and it works by killing or stopping the growth of viruses called herpes simplex (HSV), varicella zoster (VZV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV). It can also be used to treat shingles and cold sores.

For an outbreak of herpes, the typical dose is to take 1, 500mg tablet of Valaciclovir twice a day.

The active substance is Valaciclovir. Each film-coated tablet contains valaciclovir hydrochloride. (hydrated) equivalent to 500 mg valaciclovir.
