Sumatriptan tablets belong to a group of medicines known as triptans or 5-HT1 receptor antagonists. They are used in the treatment of migraines. Migraines are severe forms of headache which are believed to occur when the blood vessels in the head widen temporarily. With Sumatriptan, the blood vessels are restricted from widening.
A migraine is a severe form of headache which usually feels like a throbbing pain at the sides or front of the head. Other symptoms can include nausea and experiencing a sensitivity to light or sound. Migraines are common and affect around 1 in 5 women but only around 1 in 15 men. They typically start in early adulthood.
There is no known cure for a migraine but there are a number of treatments available to help manage the symptoms effectively. Treatments include pain killers, triptans and anti-emetics.
To obtain Sumatriptan, simply add to basket to begin your consultation.
Please use Sumatriptan exactly as your doctor has told you, making sure to read all packing and leaflets thoroughly before use.
It is best to take Sumatriptan when you first feel a migraine coming on although they can be taken any time during an attack. Please note that Sumatriptan tablets cannot be used to prevent an attack – only once an attack has started.
Please note, like all medicine, Sumatriptan can cause side effects – although this does not apply to everyone who has taken them. Side effects are usually temporary with continued treatment or disappear when you stop tacking the medicine.
Before taking your medicine please read the patient information leaflet in detail to acquaint yourself with the potential side effects.
If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your GP in the first instance. Alternatively, contact our Online Clinic team for further assistance.
