Mercilon is a combined contraceptive measure, commonly referred to as â€˜the pillâ€™. They are taken to reduce the risk of pregnancy.
Mercilon is a combined contraceptive pill which you take to prevent getting pregnant. It contains a progestogen hormone called desogestrel and an oestrogen hormone called ethinylestradiol, which work together to prevent an egg being released from your ovaries. Mercilon also makes the mucus in your cervix thicker, making it difficult for sperm to reach the egg.
Mercilon is a 21 day pill. This means you take one each day for 21 days, followed by 7 days when you take no pills.

You will need to take 1 tablet of Mercilon every day for 21 days.
Mercilon comes in strips of 21 pills, each marked with a different day of the week. You must take the pill at the same time every day until the strip is finished. Swallow the pill whole, with water if necessary. Do not chew it.
Take Mercilon tablets exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unclear on how to take this medicine, please check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Please note, like all medicine, Mercilon can cause side effects â€“ although this does not apply to everyone who has taken them. Side effects are usually temporary with continued treatment or disappear when you stop tacking the medicine.

The active substances are desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol. Each tablet contains: 150 micrograms of the progestogen desogestrel, and 20 micrograms of the oestrogen ethinyl estradiol.
The other ingredients are:
dl-alpha-tocopherol, potato starch, povidone, stearic acid, aerosol and lactose.
