Lisinopril tablets belong to a group of medicines known as Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Lisinopril tablets work by widening the blood vessels, helping to reduce blood pressure which makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body.
You may be prescribed Lisinopril tablets for the following reasons:
Please note, Lisinopril tablets are recommended to treat high blood pressure in children over 6 years old. For children under 6 years old Lisinopril should not be used to treat kidney impairment.
High blood pressure, or hypertension rarely has any noticeable symptoms but if it is left untreated it can increase your risk of suffering a kidney disease, a stroke, dementia, a heart attack or failure. High blood pressure affects 1 in 4 adults in England yet over 5 million people are estimated to be unaware they have it.
The only way to identify a high blood pressure problem and potentially catch a life threatening condition is to have your blood pressure checked regularly, at least once every 5 years. People over the age of 65, people who are overweight and have an unhealthy diet are the most at risk of high blood pressure. There are steps which can be taken to reduce your blood pressure and keep it in check.
