Lisinopril tablets belong to a group of medicines known as Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Lisinopril tablets work by widening the blood vessels, helping to reduce blood pressure which makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body. High blood pressure, or hypertension rarely has any noticeable symptoms but if it is left untreated it can increase your risk of suffering a kidney disease, a stroke, dementia, a heart attack or failure. Please note, Lisinopril tablets are recommended to treat high blood pressure in children over 6 years old. For children under 6 years old Lisinopril should not be used to treat kidney impairment.

The only way to identify a high blood pressure problem and potentially catch a life threatening condition is to have your blood pressure checked regularly, at least once every 5 years. People over the age of 65, people who are overweight and have an unhealthy diet are the most at risk of high blood pressure. There are steps which can be taken to reduce your blood pressure and keep it in check.

For raised blood pressure, the typical starting dose is 10mg taken once a day. The typical long term dose 20mg, taken once daily.
Please note, like all medicine, Lisinopril tablets can cause side effects – although this does not apply to everyone who has taken them. Side effects are usually temporary with continued treatment or disappear when you stop tacking the medicine.

The other ingredients are Mannitol, Calcium Hydrogen Phosphate, Maize Starch, Pregelatinised Starch, Colloidal Anhydrous Silica, Magnesium Stearate and in the case of 5mg, 10 mg and 20 mg tablets, Red Iron Oxide (E172).
