Psoriasis is a skin condition which causes patches of red, crusty flaky skin with silver scales. It appears typically on the elbows, knees, scalp and lower back but it can appear anywhere on the body.
If you suffer from psoriasis your body produces more skin cells than normal. Skin cells are normally made and replaced every 3 or 4 weeks however those with psoriasis experience this process every 3 to 7 days. This leads to a build-up of patchy skin.
The active substance in Dovonex Ointment is calcipotriol which belongs to a group of medicines called ‘anti-psoriatics’. It is a type of vitamin D which helps to control how your skin cells grow.
