Education First

The force of change in the industry started in Los Angeles, 1983. Jane Wurwand, a United Kingdom-trained skin therapist new to the American “esthetician” industry, recognised that continuing education for skin and body therapy was practically non-existent. She believed that while her training had been comprehensive, the US students came into the industry under-trained, under-par and worse still, under-valued.

The Making of Dermalogica

While teaching at IDI, it didn’t take long for Jane to realise no product line focused solely on skin health as opposed to skin beauty and so in 1986, Jane developed her own skin care range and Dermalogica was born. The vision was clear- a product range free of irritants such as lanoline, mineral oil, artificial colours and fragrances that can commonly cause breakouts. Face Mapping works by breaking down a client’s skin into fourteen separate zones to ensure all aspects of a client’s skin is looked at and accounted for when prescribing a specialised treatment and home care regime, which enhances effectiveness of treatments and products.
