Cilest is a combined hormonal contraceptive measure which are commonly referred to as â€˜the pillâ€™. You take it to avoid getting pregnant as a result of sexual intercourse.
Cilest contains 2 female sex hormones norgestimate and ethinylestradiol which work together to prevent an egg being released from your ovaries. Cilest also makes the mucus in your cervix thicker, making it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg. Sometimes it stops the ovary releasing an egg each month during their ovulation cycle.
Cilest is a 21 day pill. This means you take one each day for 21 days, followed by 7 days when you take no pills.

Cilest comes in strips of 21 pills, each marked with a different day of the week. You must take the pill at the same time every day until the strip is finished. Swallow the pill whole, with water if necessary. Do not chew it.

Please note, like all medicine, Cilest can cause side effects â€“ although this does not apply to everyone who has taken them. Side effects are usually temporary with continued treatment or disappear when you stop tacking the medicine.

Cilest also contains the inactive ingredients:
lactose monohydrate (a type of sugar), microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, carnauba wax, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, purified water, titanium dioxide and a dye called FD&C Blue No 2 Aluminium Lake (E132).
