The wonder of the bee

It turns out that the bee does more than you might think. Most people aren’t even aware of the wonders that these little creatures bring to our planet. For such small, short-lived insects, they do a lot of hard work to keep everything in balance. In fact, they make 1/3 of our nutritious fruits and vegetables possible and it’s surprising what foods probably wouldn’t exist without the help of bees. We rely on bees without even noticing it, but it’s a fact that bees are in trouble. This is where Burt’s Bees ‘Wild for Bees’ campaign has come into play, in order to spread the word of the wonder of the bee!

Every third bite

With bees being responsible for around 1/3 of our food supply, the list of foods that wouldn’t exist without bees being able to pollenate plants is extensive. People are often surprised that bees have more to offer besides wax and honey. But here are just some examples of the delicious and nutritious foods we would be without if we didn’t have bees:

  • Oranges
  • Pomegranates
  • Peppers
  • Cherries
  • Tomatoes
  • Lemons
  • Raspberries
  • Coffee
  • Strawberries
  • Garlic
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Pears
  • Cheese
  • Almonds

With bees at the heart of Burt’s Bees history and future, they are obviously concerned with supporting projects and awareness for the honeybee, including the British Beekeepers Association. They believe that this little insect has inspired them to try and change the world and they continue to aim to do so one honeycomb at a time.
