Britlofex Tablet 0.2mg contains the active ingredient lofexidine hydrochloride, which is used to manage and suppress withdrawal symptoms during detoxification from opiates such as heroin. Those undergoing detox from these substances will often experience physical symptoms like chills, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting, runny nose, muscle cramps and twitching. These symptoms are caused by an over-activity of noradrenaline.
The lofexidine hydrochloride works by acting on alpha 2 receptors that are found in many tissues and organs in the body like the brain, gut and blood vessels. By working on these receptors, the level of noradrenaline is reduced in order to relieve withdrawal symptoms. Although this medicine can be used to help you stop taking opiates by relieving withdrawal symptoms, it will not stop the cravings associated with detoxification. You can speak with your doctor or drugs community worker for further advice on how to suppress cravings and stay opium-free.
