Dermalogica is the skin care system researched and developed by The International Dermal Institute. Known worldwide as the professionals' choice, Dermalogica is founded on the belief that good skin care is not about pampering or luxury...any more than brushing your teeth or washing your hair is. Dermalogica's formulas have pioneered new standards for product performance. Using only the finest ingredients available, all Dermalogica products are non-comedogenic and contain no occlusive mineral oil or lanolin, no irritating artificial colors or fragrance, and no drying S.D. alcohol. Dermalogica is the skin care system researched and developed by The International Dermal Institute. Dermalogica is interested in guiding you to a new level of skin health fitness!
Face Mapping works by breaking down a client’s skin into fourteen separate zones to ensure all aspects of a client’s skin is looked at and accounted for when prescribing a specialised treatment and home care regime, which enhances effectiveness of treatments and products.
The Moment Your Skin Changed. Forever.
Dermalogica is the number one choice of skin care professionals and consumers worldwide. Why? Because for over 25 years, we’ve been dedicated to delivering exceptional skin health results through education, innovation, and professional recommendation, not through advertising, frilly packaging, promises of miracle cures, or overblown hype. Our products do the talking for us.
The force of change in the industry started in Los Angeles, 1983. Jane Wurwand, a United Kingdom-trained skin therapist new to the American “esthetician” industry, recognised that continuing education for skin and body therapy was practically non-existent. She believed that while her training had been comprehensive, the US students came into the industry under-trained, under-par and worse still, under-valued.
Jane put her education in action, opening a small classroom in Marina del Rey, California under the name The International Dermal Institute (IDI). She invited licensed skin therapists to participate in post-graduate training that is essential in staying ahead of the competitors and being valued within the skin care industry.
Today, IDI is considered the international gold-standard for postgraduate skin and body therapy training with over 40 locations worldwide.
While teaching at IDI, it didn’t take long for Jane to realise no product line focused solely on skin health as opposed to skin beauty and so in 1986, Jane developed her own skin care range and Dermalogica was born. The vision was clear- a product range free of irritants such as lanoline, mineral oil, artificial colours and fragrances that can commonly cause breakouts. These products were only available from qualified skin therapists trained at the IDI to ensure professional use and professional results.
As a brand, Dermalogica immediately upset the prevailing paradigm of beauty and glamour by classifying skin care as a health issue as opposed to a cosmetic concern.
Then, as now, all our products are manufactured in the USA, we have never taken part in animal testing, and Dermalogica is sold only where professional consultation and professional treatments are performed by professional skin therapists. In just over 20 years, Dermalogica has become the number one choice of skin care professionals worldwide, prescribed more often than any other product available.
Dermalogica is a privately owned company driven first by education and research. We take pride in being true pioneers in the industry, growing from a modest store-front in Marina del Rey to the now 145,000 square foot Corporate Headquarters in Los Angeles (and locations worldwide in close to 50 countries) -- never wavering on our initial vision of skin health and the skin health professional.
Truly understanding your skin is the first step towards a lifetime of skin health. Face Mapping is a break down of the skin, for expert skin analysis only performed by professional Dermalogica skin care therapists.
Face Mapping not only helps the therapist to prescribe the correct products to help with the skin care complaint, but it also helps the therapist look closer at the issues that may be causing the skin to react, such as food intolerance, to help eradicate the problems at the core.
(We're Not Pretty. Or beautiful. Or pampering. Or luxury.)
While our packaging may not be designed to be the most eye catching, exciting or to colour-coordinate with your bathroom, you can always be sure that we’ve spent our time on delivering your skin the high-performance formulas it needs for exceptional results every time. Plus, we’ll never use common “beauty” ingredients like Mineral Oil, Lanolin, artificial colours and fragrances or other cheap fillers, as these can commonly cause irritation and undo all the good work of a skin care regime. It may be easier to formulate with them, but the bottom line is they’re just bad for your skin! Instead, we use ingredients that we know will work – our confidence founded by skin care professionals worldwide who use our products in their treatment rooms every day because they get results and the client leaves happy, and returns again and again.
Now that you know our story, it’s time to explore the story of your skin.
