Feeling a bit flat? It’s not just you. The third Monday of January is known as Blue Monday, and is believed to be the most depressing day of the year. This is down to several factors; the return to work after Christmas, struggling with New Year’s resolutions, the poor weather and the long stretch until payday. Here’s some ideas to keep you going until the dreaded January is over.
Back to Work Blues
If you got into some bad habits during your time off, going back to the daily grind can be a shock to the system. Try and get back into a proper sleep routine, rather than staying up until the small hours and then cursing your alarm. Pack yourself something tasty, but healthy, for lunch so you have something to look forward to. If your to do list is out of control, break it down into priority order so you can tackle it efficiently instead of getting overwhelmed.
Fallen off the wagon? If you feel rubbish, it could be harder to stay on track with a resolution. Remind yourself that changing habits is a journey, not an overnight fix. If you slip up, note it, then move on, instead of giving.
Smoking is one of the hardest habits to give up. If cold turkey isn’t working for you, you could try vaping.
