When we surveyed our customers, we found that a whopping 75% of male Chemist Direct shoppers don’t moisturise, and 40% don’t even buy their own skincare products. Contrary to popular belief, male skin needs looking after too. If the idea of testing out face masks, toners and serums makes you break out in a cold sweat, don’t worry. You can get clearer, younger looking skin with a very simple routine that will add just a few minutes to your day.
Skincare routine for men: Step one
Cleanse twice a day. Washing your face removes dirt and oil, preventing clogged pores, breakouts and shiny skin. Cleansing first preps your skin for any other products, giving you a blank canvas to work with. Wash your face when you wake up, and before you go to bed.
Skincare routine for men: Step Two
Exfoliate twice a week. Exfoliating scrubs away dead skin cells that would otherwise clog pores and cause breakouts, or make the skin appear dull and lifeless. Exfoliating just twice a week makes the skin appear brighter, helping you look younger.
Skincare routine for men: Step Three
Moisturise twice a day. After you’ve washed your face, you need to apply a moisturiser, even if your skin is oily. A good moisturiser helps the skin lock in hydration and can create a barrier atop the skin that blocks some of the nasties from your day.
Skincare routine for men: Step Four
Use an SPF everyday. UV rays are there even on cloudy days, and they can lead to sun spots, wrinkles, sun burns, dry patches, moles and even skin cancer. Protect yourself by applying an SPF on your face, whether it’s part of your moisturiser or a separate product.
Many skincare products are suitable for male and female skin, so whether you shop your wife’s shelf in the bathroom cabinet or head out to buy a new skincare kit for yourself, there are lots of options out there to suit your skin. As you get used to having a routine, you can slowly add new products like acne treatments, anti-aging serums or hydrating toners, depending on your skin’s needs.
