Digestive Health

Biopets dog and cat foods contain a number of carefully selected ingredients to ensure your dog or cat gets all the help it needs to keep the digestive system ticking over. Biopets contains sources of fibre found in some of the delicious dog-food recipe combinations, such as those containing rice and potatoes, supplementary fibre from added beet pulp and added prebiotics to promote healthy bacteria in the gut.

Beet Pulp

Beet pulp is the substance that remains after the extraction of sugar from sugar beets, and is an excellent source of fibre. Traditionally used as a feed additive for horses, in recent years it has been added to dog and cat foods, it is present in all Biopets food as a stimulant for healthy digestion.

Benefits of Beet Pulp: Sources of fibre can be divided into two categories: Non-fermentable and fermentable. Non-fermentable fibre, like cellulose, passes through the intestine without being digested and provides bulk to help push waste through the digestive system. Fermentable fibre is digested into ‘short-chain fatty acids’, which provide energy for the cells that line the intestine.

Beet Pulp is known as a moderately fermentable fibre, giving the best of both worlds. It breaks down to provide energy for the cells that line the intestine, while still maintaining enough bulk to help drive out waste.

Biopets also contains added prebiotic Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), found naturally in vegetable matter and mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS), to maintain a healthy level of gut bacteria. Healthy levels of bacteria in the gut can help ensure the development of solid stools, reducing the chance of diarrhoea.

Lucerne, otherwise known as Alfafa, is present in Biopets Senior/ Light Cat Food for an extra boost of nutritional health. It has been used in herbal medicine for over 1,500 years and is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals and a natural source of fibre.
