Bactroban Cream 15g can be used to treat infections within traumatic lesions like small lacerations, sutured wounds and abrasions that have become infected with bacteria. It works by killing or stopping the growth of organisms that have caused the infection.

It contains the active antibacterial ingredient mupirocin, which works by affecting the bacteria’s production of certain proteins that are necessary for their survival. Instead, it causes the bacteria to produce abnormal and faulty proteins, which results in the elimination of the bacteria and clearing of the bacteria.

Directions for using Bactroban Cream:

  • Follow the instructions given by your doctor.
  • A thin layer of cream should be applied to the affected area of skin three times a day for up to 10 days.
  • A dressing can be applied over the treated area if needed.
  • Wash your hands after applying the cream or ointment.
  • The medicine should not be applied for longer than 10 days to avoid the bacteria developing resistance to the mupirocin. If your infection does not seem to be getting better or appears worse at any time you should let your doctor know.

Caution before using Bactroban Cream:

  • Bactroban cream and ointment are for external use on the skin only.
  • Avoid getting the cream or ointment in contact with the eyes. If it gets in the eyes they should be thoroughly rinsed with plenty of water.
  • Bactroban ointment contains polyethylene glycol. Polyethylene glycol can be absorbed from open wounds and damaged skin and is excreted by the kidneys. For this reason, the cream should be used with caution in people with moderate or severe kidney impairment.
  • Do not use Bactroban Cream if you have a known sensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients.
  • The safety of this medicine for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. It is therefore recommended, like with all other medicines, to speak with your doctor or healthcare professional before using Bactroban Cream.
Please contact your doctor or medical practitioner to understand more about the side effects of taking Bactroban Cream 15g.
