Accupro Tablet 10mg are used for widening blood vessels in the body and thus reducing blood pressure in the vessels. These tablets are prescription only and may only be purchased with a valid prescription from your doctor. Accupro tablets can be used for relief from symptoms of high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, shortness of breath, and breathing problems.
Accupro tablets contain the active ingredient quinapril, which is an ACE inhibitor. Angiotensin converting enzymes (ACE) produce angiotensin II in the body which increases the pressure within blood vessels by constricting and narrowing them. The ACE inhibitor, quinapril, blocks ACE and reduces the production of angiotensin II , which allows the blood vessels to once again relax and widen. This action causes a drop in blood pressure.
The active ingredient used in Accupro tablets also enables blood to be pumped more easily around the body. It can be used for treating heart failure when the heart is not able to pump blood around the body as efficiently as it should.
How to use it
Your doctor will usually decide on your dosage based on your age, gender, current medical condition, response to therapy, and current medications. Accupro tablets should usually be taken twice a day with or without food as directed by your doctor. Do not chew, crush, or divide the tablets. Rather, swallow them whole with a glass of water.
To get the most of your medication, avoid skipping doses. One way you can remember is to take them at the same time each day, unless your doctor has advised you otherwise. If you forget a dose and are nearer to your next one, skip the last and resume your usual dosage schedule. Do not try to double your doses to catch up as this could result in drug overdose.
In some cases it may take up to two weeks for you to feel the full benefit of Accupro tablets. Do not stop or change your dosage if you don't see the benefits right away. Consult your doctor if you are unsure whether or not the drug is working for you.
Quinapril used in Accupro tablets may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You may experience dizziness and tiredness. If you experience these symptoms, avoid using machinery, driving, or doing activities that require you to be alert until you are able to safely do so. Consult your pharmacist for more details.
