Docusol Adult Solution
The dual action is effective at relieving constipation without straining. The solution usually provides relief from constipation in one to two days.
Docusol Adult Solution and Docusol Paediatric Solution both contain the active ingredient sodium, which falls into the laxative medicine category. Docusol works in two different ways in order to relieve constipation. Firstly, it contains a stool softening action and lowers the surface tension of hard, dry stools that may have accumulated in the bowel, allowing water to penetrate them. This will make the stools softer and easier to pass in order to reduce straining. This can also be helpful for those suffering with haemorrhoids (piles) or an anal fissure.
Secondly, it has a stimulating effect on the gut and acts on the nerve endings in the walls of the large intestine (colon) and rectum, causing the muscles in the intestinal wall to contract more often and with increased force. As these muscles contract, the contents of the intestine is moved through the colon to the rectum so that the bowel can be easily emptied.
Docusol Solution can also be used to empty the bowel prior to abdominal radiological procedures, such as X-Rays eg. with barium meals.

Docusol Adult Solution is excellent to soften the stools. But alone it does not work. Osmotic laxatives in combination with ducosol works good, particularly in my case as I suffer from opiate induced constipation.
