Calcichew Tablet 500mg is a private prescription item. To purchase this item you must have a private prescription from your doctor or medical profession.

Calcichew Tablets contains the active ingredient calcium carbonate a calcium salt which is designed to supplement calcium in the diet. When calcium is low in the body calcium supplements are needed as it is a requirement for healthy and strong bones. Calcium can be found in a variety of milk and dairy products as well as spinach and nuts. Calcium requirements are usually met with daily diet but there are times when the amount of calcium needed in the body is increased such as; during growth, pregnancy, when breastfeeding and also with advanced age. Calcium supplements are also used for conditions such as osteoporosis which affects the strength of the bones. It can also be used in patients with kidney failure to bind to phosphate consumed in the diet.

Directions:

  • Calcichew tablets should be taken just before, during or just after a meal. The tablets should be chewed or sucked and not swallowed whole.
  • If Calcichew tablets are being taken as a calcium supplement (including for osteoporosis) then two or three tablets should be taken daily, preferably in divided doses, eg two in the morning and one in the evening. Follow the instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you have kidney failure and are taking these tablets to prevent the absorption of phosphate, the dose will depend on your blood phosphate levels. Follow the instructions given by your doctor.
