When you first think of Palmers, you straight away think of Cocoa Butter, body lotions and anti-stretch mark treatments. Palmers has built a reputation over 160 years as a reliable, great quality and amazing value for money brand that helps take care of your skin. Their range has included body butters, body oils, lip balms and even shampoo and conditioner! But now, they have finally answered demand and launched a fabulous Face Care range…and I’m glad to say it was well worth the wait!

Made up of five must have items, the Palmers Facial Range is nourishing and calming to the skin, and is made up of naturally derived ingredients and gentle formulas that make all the items suitable for even the most sensitive of skin types.

Including a Night Cream, Daily Lotion, Smoothing Eye Cream, Exfoliant and Cleanser, the entire Face Care range has been formulated using Palmer’s most signature ingredient: natural cocoa butter. Delicately fragranced with White Lily, they smell fresh and light, and not at all synthetic.

All the items within the range are formulated with a super nourishing, anti-ageing and soothing formula including conditioning shea butter, milk proteins, evening primrose, aloe vera, vitamin E and of course the almighty pure cocoa butter. If that wasn’t enough, they all also contains Retinol and Peptide Complex, both powerful anti-oxidants and anti-ageing wonders!

Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Night Renewal Cream is a great overnight treatment. Rich, thick and creamy, this moisturiser melts into the skin and helps regenerate the skin while you sleep, so you wake up to a refreshed, revived and smoother complexion.

If you have a more sensitive skin type or simply prefer lighter products, the Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Daily Calming Facial Lotion is perfect for you. Also great for use in the morning (under makeup), this feather-light moisturiser hydrates the skin without leaving a greasy film, is fragrance free and also contains soothing chamomile as an added bonus!

Worried about crows feet? Who isn’t!? The Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Line Smoothing Eye Cream is rich yet non-irritating, and smoothes on to the skin without upsetting the delicate eye area. Infused with powerful anti-oxidant and anti-ageing properties that help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, and helps to lighten dark circles.

Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Daily Cleansing Gel is lathering face wash that helps remove daily impurities, excess oil and traces of makeup from the skin, leaving your face clean, fresh and clear from blemishes. Great to awake and refresh the skin in the morning, or for cleansing away the daily grime at night, this cleanser leaves skin soft and supple, and doesn’t strip the skin of essential natural oils that keep your skin in tip top health!

Are you fed up of tired, dull and lack lustre skin? The chances are you need a good exfoliant! Many on the market today are far too harsh, and can actually end up damaging the skin by scraping the skin’s surface. Not so with Palmers Cocoa Butetr Formula Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub! This is infused with micro-fine crushed particles of cocoa beans, that gently yet effectively lift away dead skin cells to reveal smoother, brighter and fresher skin without being harsh or abrasive. The formula is rich and creamy, helping to hydrate the skin while you exfoliate, leaving you with healthy, refreshed and glowing skin!

If you haven’t yet tried the new Palmers Facial Range then you really are missing out! Since I have been using these myself personally now for the last few weeks, I can vouch for the fact that these do exactly what  they say on the tin. No gimmicks, no fancy marketing ploy, no celebrity endorsement, no obscene publicity... Just a simple, straight forward range that cares, protects and hydrates your skin with minimal ingredients. The result? Glowing, healthy and radiant skin without breaking the bank!

If you've tried to quit for the New Year and have now gone back to smoking, you're not alone. In fact most people who successfully quit will have tried, and failed, several times. But please don't give up on giving up; if you're committed to quitting, you can do it! Everybody has their own personal reason for wanting to give up smoking. Some people give up as part of a larger lifestyle change - to feel more healthy, for example. What are yours?

Health Benefits

It’s never too late to stop smoking. As well as reducing your risk of smoking-related illnesses, the health benefits start from the moment you stub out that last cigarette.

Time after stopping smoking:

  • - 20 minutes: Your blood pressure and pulse should return to normal.
  • - 8 hours: Carbon monoxide levels in the blood are halved and oxygen levels in the blood return to normal.
  • - 24 hours: Carbon monoxide levels in the blood return to normal and your lungs start to clear out the build-up of tar.
  • - 48 hours: Taste and smell are greatly improved.
  • - 72 hours: Breathing becomes easier, bronchial tubes relax and energy levels increase.
  • - 2 - 12 weeks: Circulation improves, making walking and running a lot easier.
  • - 3 - 9 months: Coughs, wheezing and breathing problems improve. The lungs have room for up to 10% more oxygen.
  • - 1 year: The risk of heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker.
  • - 10 years: Risk of lung cancer falls to half that of a smoker.
  •

Financial benefits

Stopping smoking isn't just about losing something - it's about gaining a lot! A packet of 20 cigarettes costs around £5.80 at the moment, so quitting will give a 20-a-day smoker an extra £40.60 a week. The benefits of stopping smoking soon start adding up ...

  • - One day £5.80 - a movie rental or a few magazines
  • - One week £40.60 - a cheap flight abroad or a few CDs
  • - One month £176.00 - a shopping spree or the monthly food bill
  • - Three months £528.00 - two weeks in the sun or a new computer
  • - Six months £1056.00 - a family holiday or some new furniture
  • - One year £2111.00 - a second-hand car or the start of a deposit for a house

And don't forget you'll also save money in other ways. Life, fire and car insurance can all be cheaper when you quit.

Here is an overall picture of what you could be saving:

No of cigarettes a day 5 10 20 40
Daily Cost £1.45 £2.90 £5.80 £11.60
Weekly Cost £10.15 £20.30 £40.60 £81.20
Monthly Cost £44 £88 £176 £352
Yearly Cost £528 £1055 £2111 £4222

These figures are calculated on an average packet of 20 cigarettes costing £5.80.

Other Benefits

By quitting you’ll have a healthier lifestyle and your purse or wallet will also thank you. But there are loads of other pluses too

  • - Better looking skin, eyes and hair: Within days of stopping smoking your hair won’t smell of stale smoke, your eyes will be less red and sore and your skin will be looking brighter as your circulation improves.
  • - Look younger for longer: Quitting smoking can help you avoid premature ageing.
  • - Improved fitness: Your energy levels will soon soar when you quit smoking, making it easier to run for the bus or play sports with your friends.
  • - A better sense of taste and smell: Rediscover the taste of your favourite foods as your taste buds kick in.
  • - More time: It takes about ten minutes to smoke a cigarette, so a ten-a-day smoker can save nearly two hours a day when they quit. Over the course of a year, you can claim back a month of lost time!
  • - Improve self confidence: Many smokers are shocked to find how quickly they get hooked on smoking. Stopping is real achievement and can give you a real boost in confidence and self-esteem.
  • - Whiter teeth: No matter how often you visit the dentist, you’ll find it impossible to maintain white teeth if you smoke.

How To Avoid Catching A Cold
by Katie Lincoln on January 28, 2011 (read all posts by Katie Lincoln)
No matter how hard we try we just can’t seem to avoid catching cold and flu. There can be nothing worse than succumbing to a week or two of headaches, runny nose, sore eyes and throat and aching muscles not to mention the stomach upsets! It spreads like wildfire to the rest of the family and sees super-moms leaving their own beds to take care of hubby and the kids! However there are a few things you can do to avoid catching a cold or flu and surprisingly they aren’t that difficult!

Keep Your Hands Clean

Hand washing is vital to keeping the germs that cause cold and flu at bay. Bacteria and viruses enter the body by means of the skin or mucous membranes so correct hand washing procedures, for example after each meal and trips to the bathroom, are essential. If you are meeting a lot of people make sure to wash your hands frequently. When you wash your hands, run clean water over them to dilute the virus. If soap and water aren’t available use alcohol-based disposable hand wipes or gel sanitizers. We Recommend: Clinell Hand & Surface Sanitiser

Use A Tissue

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth as this can spread germs. Its important to cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough with a tissue, disposing of it immediately. Its also important to then washing your hands. We Recommend: Kleenex Anti Viral Tissues

Ease The Aches & Pains

Use an all in one product for the short term relief of the symptoms of influenza, colds and chills. If you are suffering from headaches, shivers, aches and pains, congested or blocked nose, painful sinuses and sore throat pain these will help ease the pain. They normally contain paracetamol to kill the pain and an antipyretic to reduce your temperature when you have a fever. They also contain a decongestant which unblocks your nose and sinuses, helping you breathe more easily. We recommend: Beechams Cold & Flu

Take Vitamins & Supplements

Multivitamin supplements can act as health insurance before winter starts. When you feel a cold coming on it may be worth trying to increase your intake of vitamin C, either through vitamin tablets or by drinking lots of citrus juice. You may also want to supplement your diet with zinc and garlic capsules for an added boost. We Recommend: Immunace Tablets

Keep Warm

Remember the old wives tale about catching a cold when you’re wet or chilli? Well scientists have actually proven that this is true. Try to stay warm and dry when you’re out and about. Hopefully the cold will stay away! We Recommend: Medisana FWS Foot Warmer

Get Plenty Of Rest

Make sure you get enough sleep at night (at least eight to ten hours) and decent rest periods during the day. Your body’s immune system will function better with sufficient rest and you will be able to fight off any nasty viruses.

Use Natural Remedies

Many herbs have traditionally been used to ease sinus congestion, including goldenseal, echinacea, ephedra and eucalyptus but most are best avoided during pregnancy. Echinacea is thought to be safe in pregnancy, but this advice is based on one small study. It is probably safe to take echinacea as a short-term measure of no more than seven days. Eucalyptus (inhaled) is safe as an essential oil in small doses. Put two drops of the oil on a tissue or add to a bowl of hot water, to use as steam inhalation with a towel over your head. We Recommend: Olbas Oil

Drink Plenty Of Water

Water is essential to good health and flushes any toxins out of your body while re-hydrating your system. It is a good way to avoid catching cold and flu and for treating it once it has taken hold. You aren’t getting enough water if your urine is very yellow in color. It should be an almost clear light yellow color, similar to lemon juice.
