Benylin Dry Coughs Original contains three main ingredients to help relieve a dry irritating cough. Diphenhydramine works to stop allergy reactions in the body, Dextromethorpan to help suppress dry and painful coughs and Levomenthol which eases congestion and helps you breathe more easily. Benylin Dry Coughs Original is ideal for getting rid of a persistent, dry, irritating cough.
How to use Benylin Dry Coughs Original:
- Adults and children over 12 years: Two 5ml spoonfuls four times a day.
- Children aged 6 to 12 years old: One 5ml spoonful four times a day.
- Children under 6: Not recommended.
- Do not use more than 4 doses in 24 hours.
Caution before taking Benylin Dry Coughs Original:
- May cause drowsiness
- Avoid alcohol and in pregnancy.
- Not to be used by patients taking MAOIs (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors for depression)or those who have taken them in the previous 14 days.
- Not for use in respiratory failure, narrow-angle glaucoma or symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy.
- Use with caution in moderate to severe renal or hepatic dysfunction.
Benylin Dry Coughs (Original) is suitable for most people, but a few people should not take it.
To check whether Benylin (original) is suitable for you:
- Have you ever had a reaction to Benylin Dry Coughs (Original) or to any of its ingredients?
- Do you suffer from liver, kidney or lung disease?
- Do you suffer from prostate disease or glaucoma (pressure in the eye)?
- Are you pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breast-feeding?
- Are you taking medicines prescribed by your doctor, particulary anti-depressants or atropine?
- If you take medicines which make you drowsy or give you a dry mouth (sometimes called anti-cholinergics) while you are taking Benylin Dry Coughs (Original), the chances of these side effects are increased.
- Are you taking the anti-depressant medicines known as mono-amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, do not take Benylin Dry Coughs (Original). Talk to your doctor or pharmacist at once.

Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 7.5mg
Possible side effects whilst taking Benylin Dry Coughs Original:
- Side effects are not common with Dextromethorphan and when they occur they are usually mild. Occasionally dizziness, upset stomach, nausea or vomiting may occur.
- This medicine may also cause drowsiness or difficulty in concentration. If affected do not drive or operate machinery.
- Do not take with alcoholic drink.
