Avomine is for the prevention and treatment of motion sickness. It can also be used in the treatment and prevention of nausea and vomiting due to other causes, including gastro-enteritis, vestibular disturbance, drug intolerance, migraine, infectious diseases and radiotherapy.
Motion sickness is the unpleasant sensation of nausea and dizziness that some people experience when riding in a moving vehicle. Motion sickness can be brought on by travelling in cars, boats, submarines, aeroplanes, trains and even by riding amusement rides that spin.
It is believed that travel sickness is caused when the brain receives conflicting or inconsistent messages fro the eyes, stomach and the ears. This causes nausea and dizziness.
Avomine belongs to a group of medicines called phenothiazines. Avomine works by acting on the brain and blocking those conflicting messages which cause nausea and vomiting.
