Treating Minor Wounds – Cleanse, Treat & Protect

It is easy to become complacent about treating minor wounds but these principles of wound management will help you to remember what to do next time one of the family needs essential first aid.

Cleanse

Crucial for killing the germs that can lead to infection. First clean your own hands with soap and water or Cleansing Wipes with Antiseptic. Next, clean the cut, graze, or scrape you 're about to treat using Antiseptic Liquid or Antiseptic Wound Wash to make sure you 've removed any pieces of grit and dirt from the wound. Finally pat dry with clean lint-free material. Wherever you are ensure you and your families hands are free from harmful bacteria with Hand Gel.

Treat

Use a soothing Antiseptic Cream, or a ‘no-touch’ Antiseptic Spray. This will help prevent infection aiding the natural healing process.

Protect

Cover the wound with a plaster or dressing, to keep it protected from dirt, bacteria and infection. This will also cushion the wound against painful knocks and bumps. Continue to use an antiseptic to help prevent infection or a product such as Blister Plasters to help speed up the healing process. Seek medical advice if the wound becomes infected or is not healing well.

...and that's it! Simple. So the next time one of the family turns to you, remember; first aid is as easy as cleanse, treat, protect.
