Snoring is a sound that is produced when we are fast asleep. It is due to the turbulent airflow that causes the tissues of the nose and throat to vibrate which results in snoring sound. Studies estimate that 45 percentage of the population are affected by snoring. Men are more likely to snore than women. Snoring is a condition that cannot be ignored as it may occur due to obstructive sleep apnoea.
Causes:
While breathing air flows from nose to lungs, however when we are fast asleep, the area at the back of the throat narrows causing the air passage to constrict. The constriction results in small opening of the air passage due to which the tissues surrounding the opening vibrate abruptly. This vibration causes snoring.
Narrowing of the air passage can be due to different reason. These are certain medical condition that can cause narrowing of the air passages. Sleep deprivation and fatigue can sometimes cause the air passages to constrict. Studies show that people suffering from obstructive sleep apnoea wake up many times at night due to snoring.
Enlarged tonsils can cause snoring in some patients. It is seen that when soft palate is too long or floppy, it vibrates abruptly during deep sleep and cause snoring. If back of the tongue is large and if it is able to slip backwards then it can narrow the space through which the air flows resulting in snoring. Sometimes due to improper sleeping position, people may suffer from snoring.
Diagnosis:
Spouses feel troubled due to snoring partners, often they find it difficult to explain their partners that they snore. However, snoring can be developed due to certain breathing problems. Doctors use sleep studies to diagnose snoring problem. There are generally two types of sleep studies:
Unattended sleep studies
Polysomnography
Treatment:
Treatment is essential if a patient snores due to breathing related problem like sleep apnoea. You can use Snore-Free Capsules to treat snoring problem, as it contains botanical herbs like rice flour, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose to treat snoring condition.
Surgery can be opted to reduce the obstruction of the air passages that are responsible for snoring. It is usually focused on nasal passages, palate, uvula, and tongue.
Prevention:
It is seen that overweight people develop the condition of snoring. Thus it is important to maintain a healthy diet to keep your weight under control. Avoid smoking cigarettes and excess intake of alcohol.
